A bit about me...
I believe you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to thrive in today’s crazy world; your personality, your sense of humor, and most importantly, your heart. All of these elements brought me to Creekside.
I have been teaching at Creekside Charter since February 2014, and have fallen in love with the students, the teachers, and the wonderful community of people I have gotten to know. I received a B.S. in Health Education with an emphasis in community development, nutrition, and reproductive health care from San Francisco State University in 2008. I practiced health education for several years in San Francisco, working as an educator in free medical clinics, schools, and after-school programs. Initially, I moved to Tahoe in 2011 to become a ski instructor and to just get out of San Francisco. However, after two years of ski instructing, I found that I was more passionate about teaching kids all different aspects in life, not just skiing. I attended Sierra Nevada College for graduate school, earning a Master of Arts in Education, focusing on math education in middle school.
I strive to provide a fun, interactive, and constructivist approach to education that encourages students to take hold of their learning and thrive. What I love about Creekside is the unique approach to education. The staff at Creekside inspire curiosity in each of our students while encouraging them to pursue their personal passions. Creekside fosters community stewardship, critical thinking, independence and a true love of learning.
The schedule is a hybrid of classroom-based and independent study, affording the students to take on life's challenges and joys, in and outside of the classroom. I am passionate about education, teaching our students not only the "what" and "why," but also the "how"- HOW to apply the knowledge they learn to be successful, actively engaged citizens of the global human community. I value critical thinking, interaction, engagement, and hands-on project-based learning that allows children to make mistakes and grow.
I am truly honored to have the opportunity to work with such impassioned, fervent, energetic individuals. The teachers and students at this school are what make coming to work fun, exciting, challenging, and unbelievably rewarding!
